Cambodia Gambling Dens
There is an interesting history to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall betting is not permitted. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a prime spot, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; still, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and even though visas are apparently required to cross, there are ways around this, as is correct of most borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship casino, contains one hundred and fifty slot machine games and sixty gaming tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are 150 one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive vacation and hotel compound that features a number of conveniences aside from the gambling den, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and 88 tables.
